Description

Everyone needs a will sooner rather than later -- and Nolo's Simple Will Book is the all-in-one tool you need. For over 15 years, this bestseller had made it easy to:

  • write a legally valid will
  • leave property to family, friends or organizations
  • name a personal guardian to care for your children
  • safely leave property to young children
  • arrange for the payment of debts and taxes
  • name an executor to handle your affairs
  • update your will as needed

Nolo's Simple Will Book lets you choose from seven different will forms, or builds you a custom will to suit special situations. It also provides a detailed discussion of estate planning for those who may want more than a will.

Completely updated and revised, the 7th edition provides all worksheets and will forms on CD-ROM. It also includes new information on "ethical wills," which let you convey your feelings and values to loved ones. Good in all states except Louisiana.

    Summary: "Another NOLO Home Run"

Another in a long series of NOLO books which demystify subjects normally cloaked in legal mumbo jumbo. Some of the best include Divorce (including child custody issues) , Wills and Trusts , Landlord Tenant law, , Bankruptcy Guides .

What distinguishes the NOLO books is that they explain, illustrate, recommend and then provide a self help solution. In addition they point out the circumstances in which professional help is needed. The newer ones include software to create the documents.

Nolo also tells you what will happen in the process.

This guide includes both wills and trusts. After living through a parent's probate in California I was determined not to inflict this on my family . Not just the cost but the endless time and abusive fees of probate.

Even if you plan to engage an attorney to prepare your documents this guide will let you go to meetings well informed and in a position to ask intelligent questions while not wasting $400/ hour time on a basic education. In addition you will know what information you will need to put together prior to the first meeting. Perhaps most importantly the book will help you formulate your goals and understand the vehicles available to achieve those goals.

Finally, I think this is a great book for spouses which will help them understand the process and participate in their partner's process of preparing will and trust documents.

    Highly recommended

Summary: "Better than an estate planner for alot of normal people"

I've been trying to get specific instructions for a holographic will (completely handwritten), but with no success, opted for buying this book and writing my own will that will have to be witnessed by two people for validity. The book is concise, easy to understand, and covers alot more circumstances than those affecting me: minor children, simple investments, property. It's nice that there are template forms so you don't have to dream up your instructions without guidelines. The included CD is a bonus. I recommend this product.

    Summary: "Good Basic Info"

THis book provides good basic information for completing a will. Therefore, do not rely soley on it. It would not hurt to have an attorney to review your completed will after following the guidelines outlined in the books.

This book gives you a good overview of what your Will should say. I used it as reference only. I had my lawyer revise some verbage in my will.
